The internet is a fact. Good for some, not so much for others, but it is a fact. As with everything in life, the internet has advantages and disadvantages; there is a good side and a wrong side. Knowing the two sides of the internet is difficult due to its dimension, abstraction and perception that people have of it. This text presents some suggestions to demonstrate its advantages and disadvantages.
Advantages Of The Internet
Knowledge Culture
We could call it the democratization of education. Education is ancient, but it has never been very democratic. The reason for this, among others, could be the difficulty of communicating knowledge. For generations, knowledge was transferred from father to son and those who had access to education were limited to books.
The internet solves that. We live in a culture of knowledge. Governments and educators urgently need to use the internet to build a broader educational model. The amount of information available is enormous in text, audio, video and others.
Convenience
One of the significant advantages of the internet is its convenience. It’s fast, easy and just a few clicks away. In a few minutes, I can go to the bank, make a purchase, pay a bill, issue a document, talk to several people, and search for that recipe, among other things. Moreover, people share on social networks what they like, interact with others, and create an environment, albeit virtual, of healthy coexistence with many people.
Social inclusion
Access to knowledge, convenience in obtaining services, and research, among others. Due to the free nature of most content, the internet provides unprecedented social and digital inclusion. This inclusion also puts people in touch with others, and in a very intuitive way, people learn new things all the time.
Elimination of borders
I can go to the Louvre in Paris, look up information at the American Intelligence Agency, look at the streets of Tokyo on Google Street View, and see videos produced in Jerusalem, among others. We never had this freedom and ease of locomotion across the globe, albeit virtual. I use internet resources not only to work and study but also to plan trips, accompany people travelling. Take a look at these example links below:.
Opportunity generation
In the past, large corporations, governments and systems controlled communication, business and much of the culture. But the internet has given people a voice. Many unknown people are putting their ideas to work, doing business, promoting culture and knowledge and generating income for many people with an account on a social network, a blog or a YouTube channel. Making money from the internet is an excellent opportunity for ordinary people.
Disadvantages Of The Internet
Privacy
But not everything is an advantage on the internet. There is a downside that also needs to be considered. Privacy is one of them. On the internet, many people are exposed and end up victims of scams, robberies and other crimes. Many complain about the lack of privacy on social networks, among others. These are new times, and new postures need to be taken.
Be careful when exposing on the internet: photos, videos and personal information such as addresses, and phone numbers, among others. It includes social networks.
Anonymity and illegality
Many hide behind supposed anonymity to commit crimes and diapers of the most diverse types. There is a lot of illegality; small frauds are engaged all the time, and actions like these show the wrong side of the internet. We have already seen cases where large websites were targeted by justice and even blocking of the WhatsApp messaging service in 2016. All this shows that people use the internet to commit crimes, utter offences and other illegal activities, using the idea of anonymity.

superficial approach
Another disadvantage of the internet is the often superficial approach to the subjects presented. This isn’t as serious a problem as the above ones, but it always leaves a hole. The approach found on the web differs from a book’s approach, for example. The latter has a beginning, middle and end. On the internet, sometimes things are up in the air.
loss of focus
Another aspect that needs to be considered is that the internet is also a form of entertainment at the same time as it is a work or study tool, for example. This way, it is straightforward to lose focus of work or studies with the numerous attractions just a click away. Keeping focused while using the internet has been a great challenge for many people; unfortunately, many are unable to focus on what they should.
Access costs and difficulties
Finally, the most significant disadvantage of the internet may be the difficulty many have in accessing it. It is still costly, and the quality leaves much to be desired. Moreover, it is difficult in some regions to get broadband connections; when they do, they are costly and sometimes harmful.
Conclusion
I believe the advantages of the internet outweigh its disadvantages. The good side is even more significant, and we can extract edifying things from them for our lives with caution. When using the internet, try to focus on what is interesting to you and be careful when posting personal information and referring to other people.
