Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus: After analyzing the Galaxy S22 Ultra, we have in hand the middle version that seeks to deliver the most balanced cost-benefit of the line. The S22 Plus isn’t just a stretched version of the standard S22; some refinements bring it closer to Samsung’s more expensive model. And with that comes the question: is it the best buy? Samsung decided to follow in Apple’s footsteps and removed some of the accessories in the S21 line. The S22 Plus continues with a compact box and only brings the basics, but you can order the 25W charger on the Samsung website. So what’s in the box?

Design and Construction

One thing the S22 and S22 Plus have in common is design. However, unlike the Ultra, which is more rectangular and has curved edges, the others in the line are flat on the front and back and look very similar to the S21 sequence. So what changes are the measurements and weight, which make the Plus less compact and comfortable to use?

The finish is the same between the three models, unlike last year when the cheapest came with a plastic back. Here we have a metal structure reinforced with Gorilla Glass Victus Plus glass on both sides and matte on the back to accumulate fewer fingerprints and give an impression of refinement. And in this generation, Samsung adopts some internal components made of recycled plastic extracted from the oceans.

The S22 Plus shares the same colours as the standard S22, and here in Brazil, we have four options to choose between white, black, rosé and green. The wine tone was exclusive to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The camera block will still make of metal, but it is no longer integrated into the edge as in the previous generation and is now a separate piece glued to the rear.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

The front continues with a central hole for the selfie camera and the edges, especially the lower one, are thinner, which ensures greater frontal use of the screen. In addition, the biometric reader is located under the panel and responds quickly when you touch your finger on the net.

The power and volume keys are on the right side, while at the bottom is the drawer for two chips, the USB-C input, the main speaker and a microphone. On top is just a second microphone for capturing stereo audio.

Regarding connectivity, we have only the Bluetooth version that has evolved to 5.2 compared to its predecessor. On the other hand, sixth-generation Wi-Fi, NFC and 5G connectivity are still present. It’s a shame that wireless charging support remains limited to just 15W.

Screen And Sound

The screen has shrunk in this generation from 6.7 inches to 6.6 inches. In addition, it is less stretched, which makes the S22 Plus a little wider. However, maintain the Full HD+ resolution, so if you were expecting a Quad HD display, you would have to invest in the S22 Ultra. At least Samsung has done more in the middle model’s panel, and the S22 Plus is as bright as the most expensive in the line.

In addition, the Plus also shares the Vision Booster technology debuted on the S22 Ultra. It analyses ambient light to adjust gamma and saturation, improving visibility in open spaces. The 120 Hz panel has also evolved and can now reduce the speed to below 60 Hz when needed to save battery.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

The S22 Plus uses the call speaker to deliver stereo sound. Being smaller than the main speaker, we have an unbalanced sound, but it doesn’t interfere with the experience. The bass comes out clearly at the bottom of the device, while we see the treble stand out at the top. Besides having more precise bass, the power is good and above the S21 Plus.

It doesn’t fall short of the S22 Ultra in power or sound quality, but it falls below the iPhone 13 lineup. Dolby Atmos support has several profiles to choose from, including a dedicated one for gaming.
